By the shores of Lake Kasumigaura,
where you can gaze at the horizon
of the vast lake as if
you were looking at the ocean.
Lake Kasumigaura, the second-largest lake in Japan after Lake Biwa. Since ancient times it has been a source of water and fishing place for the locality. As the base of gastronomy tourism around Lake Kasumigaura, SUIGOEN provides the fare of Ibaraki such as fish and shellfish caught in the lake, vegetables and rice grown near its shores, and fruit harvested in the local hills, all prepared in the villa’s kitchen.
The traditional
SUIGOEN is a villa that can be privately rented, and is situated on an area of high ground near the shores of Lake Kasumigaura, which lies within the Suigo-Tsukuba Quasi-National Park No.2 special protection zone. The building, constructed in the Showa period (1926–1989) and rebuilt using the Itakura method—a Japanese traditional construction technique—matures and deepens its flavor as time goes by. Lake Kasumigaura, the second-largest lake in Japan, can be seen from the windows and gardens. When the weather is fine, the morning sun can be seen rising on the horizon of the vast lake’s waters.
As well as cuisine prepared in the villa’s kitchen using the finest local ingredients, our craft beer brewery stands nearby enabling guests to enjoy our original craft beers. You can enjoy a relaxed and private stay as if you were spending time in your own second home.

Situated right in front of Lake Kasumigaura, it is in principle a self-catering guest house that in addition to the three guest rooms (generally used by two people per room) also features a communal lounge and communal dining area. Moreover, the Eguchiya Brewing brewery stands in its grounds, enabling guests to enjoy original craft beers either in the brewery or the guest house. The guest house can be used for individual guests, family or group holidays as well as working vacations.
